Planning the layout of the studio, how the curtains can be manipulated into making different sized spaces within a larger space, reinforcing the idea of gathering in terms of material, gathering folds into smaller details, and the idea of gathering in terms of bringing elements together.
The brief requires doors, at least one front door, a back door and one other threshold. I have decided on two "front doors" one which goes through the facade into a transitory space, and one which allows entry into the actual building. The "back door" is a door that leads into an open courtyard space, whilst the final threshold is shown in the idea of curtains, a threshold that can change the space within a building as well as enforcing interaction with the building/layout itself.
The facade front door would be heavier, as it is the first step into entering my design and thus should be a more obvious transition. I imagined the other front door and back door to be a "lighter" design, that of a screen door, offering both protection, interaction with the architecture and the entry of light into the building.
The roof would be sloped, the glass allowing light to come in from all sides of the building, whilst the top is covered to prevent overheating within the studio.
This is a short summary of how I included previous designs into my building. The sustenance project informed the design of the facade, the waking up project informed the form of the structure, as well as the transitions in light and finally, the precedent building shown in the Matrix (the Murcia Town Hall) is used in terms of materials as well as orientation within the site. These certain aspects of the designs were used in my building, rather than the entire buildings themselves, as I believe they could inform my architecture in terms of three separate aspects (structure, philosophy and materials) rather than being thrown together in a melee of already made/designed buildings.
