I went to the lazer cutters on Upper Queen Street with some experimental files (now that I have ascertained cork won't implode when cut) and all I've heard is true, they are very fast and helpful. I had two files with me, one for the stair mold and the other experimenting with different types of engraving on cork (which I earlier identified as that which was most appealing to me)
I put a few random experimental engravings on the cork, however, I feel the line engraving looks very effective on the cork, almost making it look like a different material or some sort of paving.
I intend to use the line engraving somewhere on my final design:
