Today we were given our brief as to what we need to have and present for the final crit of this semester. We are to develop our office design, as well as paying close attention to the ground conditions of our site, the individual needs of our fellow colleagues and how the interior spaces interact within the office
As well as including the aspects of the aforementioned Gathering and Gifting briefs we will also need to show:
- The positioning of our project on the 1:500 and 1:100 model
I was a bit worried about this, as my site had developed from that which I chose at the beginning of the semester, however I was told by Judy that I could use someone else's model that we acquired from the previous trading activity, which is ideal as I remember a very nice model showing the outside of the Old Railway Station
- Map on A4 at:
1:500 - ground condition
1:200 - the building site/ground
1:100 - the threshold(s) of the site/building
1:20 - the detail between ground and building
- Repeat the zoomed sequence as a sectional series
I asked Judy whether I could do this as a series of augmented reality drawings, as I feel it would give me a lot more to go on in terms of showing my idea, the response was positive.
- Evidence of the whole semester, "best of the blog"
As well as these, we will need to submit a PDF file (something I've never done before) that consists of 8 pages, which should include:
- 1/2 pages per workshop
- 1 page for reviews you received/gave
- 4 pages of your final design (your best work)
Along with the PDF file will be a "stunning" Matrix, the template of which we will be given on Cecil.
I asked if this could be drawn by hand, as this is the technique I have used for my previous matrix drawings. Judy agreed that this would be a good idea but I could perhaps combine it with other techniques. The idea of an animated matrix was well received but I'm not sure yet whether that is the direction I will take.
We were also asked to identify the best parts of our previous projects. Personally, I found my manipulation of cork/materials in the lazer cutter, storage boxes informing the architecture of the office and different types of augmented reality drawings to be the best points. My weakest point would be the amount of development shown on the A1 animated sheet, when I look back I see a lot I could have done better and improved upon.
